Overview
Kusum Kanguru Peak is located in the Khumbu region of Nepal. This Peak Lies on the border between Dudh Koshi and Hinku Valley. Kusum Kangru name was derived from Tibetan word which meansĀ Three Snow Peaks . East Kusum Kanguru (6358m) , West Kusum Kanduru (5579m) and Main summit Kusum Kanguru (6367m).
It has panoramic view of the world’s towering mountains. Everst, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Nuptse, Thamserku, Ana Dablam, etc
Itinerary
The company will pick you up from the airport and drive you to the hotel.
Today we will spend most of our day sightseeing around some of the world heritage sites of Kathmandu valley. Meanwhile, the company will complete the necessary paper works and make other preparations required for Kusum Kanguru Peak climbing.
After breakfast, we will take a 45 minutes flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. After landing at Lukla airport, we will start our trek and walk around 4-5 hours until we reach Chhuthang.
Leaving Chhuthang, we will follow the trail that is gradually uphill as we head towards Zatrawala Pass. From the top of the pass, we will enjoy great views of Numbur Himal, Kongdi Ri, Karyolang Peak and other surrounding snow-capped high peaks. We will descend gently and continue downhill trekking as we head towards Thuli Kharka which will take around 5-6 hours.
From Thuli Kharka, we continue our trek through a thick forest filled with rhododendron trees towards Kothe for 6-7 hours which is located on the west side of Hinku valley. Kothe is well known for its dense rhododendron forest.
From Kothe, we continue our trek by following the trail that goes along the ridge of Hinku river to Thangnak. On the way, we will pass through Lungsumgba Gompa which was built about 200 years ago and also get a glimpse of Mera Peak. It takes 4-5 hours to reach Thangnak.
On this day, we will acclimatize to high altitudes. We will take a rest and explore the places around Thangnak.
After having rest in Thangnak, we will continue uphill trekking all the way to Kusum Kanguru Base Camp. It will take around 4-5 hours of trekking from Thangnak to reach Kusum Kanguru Base Camp. Upon reaching the base camp, our Sherpa crew will set up the camp and make all the necessary preparations for getting further into higher camps at higher altitudes.
We will leave the Base Camp and follow a bit difficult trail that may require the usage of crampons, ropes and ice axes. We have to rest every now and then to help us restore the energy until we reach the camping site at Camp I.
Today, we will rest and acclimatize at Camp I, as we are over 5000 meters above sea level, and acclimatizing is a must for successful climbing. While we are acclimatizing, our sherpa crew will check and prepare the necessary equipment for further climbing.
After a full day's rest at Camp I, we will continue to climb even higher to reach Base Camp II. It takes around 4-5 hours to reach Camp II. Once reaching Camp II, our sherpa crew will set up the camp and make final preparations for the summit of Kusum Kanguru Peak.
On this day. we will finally summit Kusum Kanguru Peak before midday as the strong winds afternoon creates obstacles and makes it difficult to reach the summit. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with magnificent views of the mountains including Mt Everest, Mt Cho Oyu, Mt Lhotse, Mt Makalu, Mt Nuptse, Mt Thamserku, Mt Ama Dablam and other surrounding high peaks.After spending some time at the peak we will descend down to the Base camp.
After a successful summit of Kusum Kanguru Peak, we will descend towards Tashing Ongma from the basecamp for about 5-6 hours. We will stay overnight in our camp.
Leaving our campsite at Tashing Ongma, we will follow the trail and descend back to Thuli Kharka through dense rhododendron forest. It takes around 5-6 hours to reach Thuli Kharka from Tashing Ongma.
Today is the last day of our trekking as we head towards Lukla from Thuli Kharka. We will ascend to reach Zatrawala pass and from the top of the pass, we will descend down the trail and finally reach Lukla.
On this day, we will fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla Airport. Once reaching Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.
