Overview

In the Everest region, there is an adventurous and technically challenging trip called the Gokyo Cho La Pass Everest Base Camp trip. It includes visits to well-known locations such as Tengboche Monastery, Gorak Shep, Namche Bazaar, and Everest Base Camp, but it is particularly noteworthy for its trip to the Gokyo Lakes across the high-altitude Cho La Pass. Long days (8 to 9 hours) are required for the trek, which offers breathtaking views of rhododendron forests, waterfalls, high pasturelands, chortens, and prayer flags.

It’s important to get used to the altitude in Namche Bazaar so that you can visit neighboring sights like Syangboche, Khumjung Village, and the Khumjung Hillary School. The route passes via the Ngozumpa Glacier to arrive to the turquoise Gokyo Lakes. A highlight is the strenuous trek up Gokyo Ri, which provides acclimatization for the strenuous ascent to Cho La Pass and offers sweeping views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu.

Trekkers begin around 4 or 5 am, confronting a difficult day at elevations over 5,300 m, including snowy terrain, in order to cross the pass early and avoid winds. The journey continues to Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp, and Kalapatthar, or Everest View Point, providing opportunities for amazing photo ops as well as a sense of accomplishment. It’s a distinct and rewarding adventure, even with the difficulties of long and exhausting walking days. The rewards are in the form of personal accomplishments and lifelong memories. Alternatively, a helicopter tour of Everest Base Camp is recommended for individuals looking for a less taxing choice.

Itinerary

After meeting you at the airport, we will drive you to your accommodation. We will also provide you with a briefing on your trek. You're free to tour the city for the remainder of the day.

Embark on your trek with our dedicated preparation day, meticulously designed for an unforgettable journey. Explore local attractions, finalize permits, and receive essential briefings from experienced guides. Utilize this time to fine-tune your gear, understand emergency procedures, and recharge before immersing yourself in breathtaking landscapes.

Arriving at Lukla by plane is amazing! The airfield below and the mountains surrounding it give the pilot the impression that this is an impossible feat. However, these are seasoned veterans who have completed hundreds of these tasks!
Hike for a few hours to Phakding after your trek crew picks up your bags and maybe after having a cup of hot tea. This is where you'll spend your first night in the Himalayas!

We cross the Dudh Koshi River on suspension bridges today as we approach the Sagarmatha National Park and rhododendron forests. When you get to Namche, you'll see why it's the trailhead for so many climbers and hikers—this lively town is the result!

Resting is never a part of acclimatization! Staying active is the best method to help your body adjust to the high altitude. So we venture outside to take in some of the local sights. The primary attractions of Khumjung village are its historic monastery—which was renovated following the 2015 earthquake—and its association with Sir Edmund Hillary.
Of course, the Everest View Hotel offers a stunning view of Mount Everest, which is the reason you came. Come on by for a cup of coffee and take in the breathtaking Everest vista from their terrace.

Hike up the Dudh Koshi Valley after breakfast, then descend into forests of pine and rhododendron, where the trail splits.
Admire the awe-inspiring landscapes of Thamserku, Everest, Ama Dablam, and other mountains while traveling by several Buddhist stupas and waterfalls. At the trail's split, we bear left to travel in the direction of Gokyo Lakes and continue until we arrive at the settlement of Dole.

This lovely, attractive trail climbs steeply through scrub juniper. After leaving Dole, there is a steep climb for about 30 minutes, followed by a more gradual ascent for the remaining distance.
Below is the Dudh Koshi River. The trail reaches a ridge above the small teahouse community of Machhermo, where hikers can enjoy breathtaking views of Thamserku.

The terrain is not too difficult today after Machhermo, with only one or two short high stretches. After descending to the Dudh Koshi River, the trail ascends sharply to the first Gokyo Lake and the Ngozumpa Glacier.
The second lake is rather long and runs parallel to the hiking track, whereas the first lake is quite little. We pause for lunch at a few teahouses we find at the third lake.
We ascend to Gokyo Ri after lunch, which takes two to three hours. At 5,357 meters, the Gokyo Ri viewpoint offers a breathtaking view of the mountains above and the lakes and glaciers below. The scenery is especially stunning at dusk.

We reach the fourth Gokyo lake—or rather, a viewpoint over the lake—after a short climb. Trekking continues over steep and glacial terrain to reach Thagnak, where there aren't many teahouses and from where most people intend to cross the Chola Pass the following day.

It's an early start today, with the climb of Chola Pass (5,330m) starting at around three in the morning. The Gokyo region and the main Everest Base Camp trail are connected by this pass. Crampons are essential for this pass because you will be walking on a glacier at various places.
After a strenuous day, we head to Cho Dzongla village for a satisfying dinner and much-needed relaxation. Of course, this route's scenery more than makes up for the exhausting day.

It's a short, easy day on a level trail today. Until you get to the main trail near Lobuche, you won't meet many other hikers either.

Today, we travel to Gorakshep by following the Khumbu Glacier. The settlement closest to Everest Base Camp is, in fact, this one. The climb up to Kalapatthar, which offers better views of Everest than even EBC, takes place in the afternoon. The highest point in Nepal that we may hike without converting our trekking permit into a climbing one is Kala Patthar, which means "black rock."
The vistas of Nuptse and Changtse, as well as the up-close views of Everest, are very breathtaking. Though the vistas are breathtaking at any time of day, sunset and sunrise are perhaps the greatest times to trek up here.
Kala Patthar makes his way back to Gorakshep for the night after ascending.

We hike from Gorakshep to Everest Base Camp along the Khumbu Glacier, passing a lot of praying flags in the process. The whole travel time is about four hours. After breakfast, we will head back to Gorakshep and depart for Pheriche, which is about four hours distant.

Even though you're hiking for a long day, the walking appears a little easier as you get lower in altitude. You'll also note that it's getting warmer, which is nice after the previous chilly days. The recovery of forests and other vegetation has changed the appearance of this trail from its predecessors.
When you arrive in Namche, a cozy hotel and a delectable dinner await you!

Following breakfast, we departed from Namche and followed the Dudh Koshi River to Lukla, where we spent the night before catching a flight back to Kathmandu.

The journey is breathtaking once more, with views of mountains and farms till we eventually arrive at Kathmandu. We'll guide you to your accommodation and provide it once more. The journey is breathtaking, with views of mountains and farmlands all the way to Kathmandu.
We'll accompany you to your hotel and offer you recommendations for the remainder of the day's activities if that's what you'd want.
